This in-person, hands-on course equips you with the essential knowledge and practical abilities to confidently assist with orthodontic procedures, including appliances, brackets and bands, and clear aligner therapy in a modern dental practice. Through expert-led instruction, you will gain a solid foundation in orthodontic first principles, learn to integrate digital workflows and master the latest techniques for intraoral procedures. This course is ideal for those seeking to broaden their scope of practice, enhance patient care, and support the growing demand for orthodontics services. Upon completion of this Dental Assistant course, participants will be able to confidently perform 4 intraoral procedures referenced in the RCDSO Standard of Practice for Level 2 Dental Assistants*. This includes: Placing and cementing bands, brackets, and passive space maintainers or orthodontic appliances. Placing attachments for orthodontic purposes in conjunction with clear aligner therapy. Removing bands, brackets and passive space maintaining or orthodontic appliances. Taking non alginate conventional impressions for working models for the fabrication of space maintaining or orthodontic appliances.

Learning Objectives

• Explore the evolution of orthodontic practice while understanding the fundamental principles of orthodontics • Develop proficiency in gathering comprehensive orthodonic records for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning • Master the proper handling and application of orthodontic instruments while gaining practical experience with digital scanning technologies and impression techniques • Demonstrate competence in performing regulatory approved intraoral procedures including the precise placement, cementation, and removal of bands, brackets, active and passive appliances • Acquire the technical skills necessary for properly placing attachments and auxiliaries for clear aligner therapy to ensure optimal tooth movement and treatment outcomes
